Forthcoming Visit of Textile & Apparel Delegation from Madagascar (15 – 17 June 2022)

As you are aware, there are many commonalities between Mauritius and Madagascar’s economic sectors. Both countries complement each other in different sectors and more so in the Textile & Apparel (T&A) sector.

The Textile & Apparel sector remains one of the main drivers of growth of both the Mauritian and Madagascar’s economy. Both economies are endowed with a strong T&A industry, creating significant employment, generating export revenue, mainly in terms of foreign currency as well as spillovers in auxiliary sectors such as logistics, banking, and other services.

Combining the strength of both countries, our region has become a viable quick-response, qualitative and socially compliant sourcing option for many sophisticated customers world-wide, particularly in this post covid era. There is a great complementarity and possible synergies to develop between our two countries.

In this context, we are expecting a strong Textile & Apparel delegation comprising of both the Government and Private Sector from Madagascar from 15th – 17th June 2022. We hope that this mission will be the starting point of a Mauritius – Madagascar Textile & Apparel Commission Mixte.

The objectives of the “Mauritius – Madagascar Textiles & Apparel Commission Mixte” will be:

  • To enhance regional collaboration between both countries and together as the Regional Hub in Africa.
  • Devise a joint strategy to attract buyers looking for an alternative sourcing by proposing the region as one sourcing destination.
  • To reflect on main areas of collaboration and join forces to implement common projects.
