Communique: Implementation of the Code of Conduct for Ethical Recruitment and Employment of Migrant Workers in Mauritius
Article | March 20, 2026
The Mauritius Export Association (MEXA) continues to advance the implementation of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment and Employment of Migrant Workers in Mauritius developed in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The Code establishes a sector-wide baseline for responsible recruitment and employment practices, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen human rights due diligence and reinforce Mauritius’ positioning as a credible ethical sourcing destination.
As part of the implementation of the Code, companies will begin engaging in Gap Audits, conducted independently by SGS. These assessments will provide a structured review of current practices against the requirements of the Code, identify priority areas for improvement, and support companies in progressing towards certification.
The launch of the Gap Audit phase represents an important milestone for the sector, marking the transition from development to concrete implementation and continuous improvement.
MEXA remains committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to advance responsible labour practices and will continue to share updates as the initiative progresses.
