The Cabinet of Ministers, last week, took note of the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Strategy for Port Development and has endorsed a series of measures aimed at strengthening the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the Port of Port Louis.

Among the main orientations approved are initiatives to modernise port operations, enhance institutional arrangements and increase the port’s capacity to attract additional maritime traffic. These measures are expected to contribute to improving overall performance across the port ecosystem.

As part of this new strategic direction, the authorities will also engage with potential strategic partners to support infrastructure development and operational optimisation. The framework further clarifies and reinforces the respective roles of the Mauritius Ports Authority and the Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd within the port system.

MEXA remains actively engaged in these discussions and continues to advocate for reforms that enhance the efficiency, reliability and global competitiveness of Mauritius’ port infrastructure in support of the export sector.
