Article | February 11, 2026
MEXA together with the private sector continues to play an active role in shaping the country’s Port Development Strategy. Several high-level meetings were held with the Government over the past six weeks.
The meetings brought together major private sector stakeholders, including MEXA, Business Mauritius, and the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), to further discuss the future direction of the port and the urgent measures required to enhance its efficiency, governance, and competitiveness.
MEXA reiterated the need to pursue:
- Immediate operational improvements, including acquisition of equipment for e.g. mobile cranes, gantry cranes, etc.
- Medium- to long-term structural reforms
MEXA’s Continued Engagement
The port remains a critical pillar of Mauritius’ export ecosystem. Efficiency, predictability, and competitive costs are essential to preserving export orders, maintaining buyer confidence, and supporting employment across key sectors.
MEXA will continue to actively engage with authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the concerns and priorities of the export community are effectively reflected in the implementation of the Port Development Strategy.
