The U.S.-Africa Trade Desk (USATD) has announced the successful export of 300 tons of premium-grade cotton from North Carolina to Mauritius, marking a milestone that strengthens trade relations between the United States and Africa.

The high-quality, ethically sourced cotton will be integrated into Mauritius’s world-renowned textile and apparel sector, reinforcing supply chain integrity, traceability, and competitiveness.

This landmark deal represents:

  • A Strategic Trade Partnership — Direct sourcing from U.S. producers creates long-term opportunities for the American cotton industry, while ensuring Mauritian manufacturers access to premium raw materials.
  • Global Recognition of Mauritius’s Textile Industry — The agreement underscores the island’s reputation as a trusted manufacturing hub producing sophisticated knitwear and apparel for international markets.
  • Sustainable and Quality-Driven Production — The initiative aligns with the growing global demand for transparent, ethical, and high-standard production.

Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Soma, CEO of Firemount Textiles Ltd — the first official Mauritian partner in the initiative — emphasized that the use of U.S. cotton in denim jeans destined for American consumers will not only meet the highest quality expectations of the U.S. retail market but also expand Firemount’s global footprint.

This achievement reaffirms Mauritius’s position as a competitive and reliable sourcing destination, strengthening its role in international textile and apparel supply chains.
