MEXA and IOM signs MoU on Ethical Recruitment and Responsible Labour Migration

MEXA and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4 August 2026, reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting ethical recruitment, protecting migrant workers and supporting responsible business practices within Mauritius' export manufacturing sector.

The signing ceremony brought together representatives of Government, the United Nations, the private sector and key stakeholders, highlighting the growing importance of responsible labour migration in supporting the country's economic development.

The MoU provides a framework for closer collaboration between MEXA and IOM on initiatives related to ethical recruitment, capacity building, worker protection and responsible labour migration. It also reinforces the long-standing partnership between the two organisations in promoting internationally recognised labour standards across the export manufacturing sector.

During the ceremony, MEXA highlighted the increasingly important role migrant workers play not only in the export manufacturing sector but across the wider Mauritian economy. As labour shortages and changing skills requirements continue to affect businesses, the need to ensure ethical recruitment and fair employment practices has become more critical than ever.

As international expectations regarding human rights and responsible recruitment continue to evolve, MEXA remains committed to helping its members strengthen their employment practices while enhancing Mauritius' reputation as a credible and ethical sourcing destination.
