MEXA launches sector-wide consultation to address Manufacturing Skills Needs
Article | May 22, 2026
Over recent years, many companies operating within the export manufacturing sector have highlighted growing challenges linked to the availability of skilled technical personnel, particularly in areas such as engineering, production, maintenance, automation, and industrial operations. As industries continue to modernize and adopt new technologies, the demand for specialized competencies and operational expertise has become increasingly critical.
As part of its broader efforts to build technical capacity and strengthen expertise within the export manufacturing sector, MEXA has embarked on an industry-wide Training Skills Gap Analysis initiative in collaboration with its appointed Consultant.
MEXA has launched a series of company visits across the manufacturing sector to gain a deeper understanding of the specific operational realities and skills needs of businesses. To date, approximately 15 companies have already been visited as part of this exercise.
These visits provide valuable insight into the day-to-day challenges faced by manufacturers, while also allowing companies to directly share their expectations regarding workforce development, technical training, and upskilling requirements.
The main objective of the Skills Gap Analysis is to ensure that future training programmes developed by MEXA are fully aligned with actual industry demands and operational realities.
