MEXA Takes Action to Tackle Container Collection Delays
Article | June 08, 2026
MEXA has launched a dedicated monitoring mechanism aimed at gathering factual data on delays experienced by exporters during the collection of import containers at the Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL).
The initiative follows concerns raised by members regarding waiting times and operational inefficiencies encountered at container collection points. As the leading voice of the export sector, MEXA is taking proactive steps to ensure that industry concerns are supported by objective evidence and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
Under the monitoring exercise, MEXA members have been requested to record key information, including the time of arrival and departure of lorries collecting containers. The data will enable MEXA to develop a clearer understanding of the extent and frequency of delays affecting supply chain operations.
MEXA will consolidate the information received from members and use the findings to engage with Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd (CHCL) and other relevant authorities. The objective is to foster evidence-based discussions that can lead to tangible improvements in service delivery and operational efficiency.
By spearheading this initiative, MEXA once again reaffirms its commitment to being a strong advocate for the export community and a catalyst for continuous improvement across Mauritius' trade and logistics landscape.
