RT Knits Ltd reaches 100% renewable electricity, marking a major milestone in sustainable manufacturing

Article | January 29, 2026

As the architect and driving force behind the Carbon Neutral Industrial Sector Renewable Energy Scheme, MEXA continues to translate national climate ambition into tangible industrial transformation.

This vision has now materialised in a landmark achievement: on 29 January 2026, RT Knits Ltd completed the installation of its expanded 7.5 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm, enabling the company to reach 100% renewable electricity consumption.

Developed by MEXA to accelerate decarbonisation across Mauritius’ export manufacturing sector, the Scheme provides a structured and scalable framework for companies to transition toward clean energy. It demonstrates that industrial competitiveness and climate responsibility are not opposing forces, but mutually reinforcing drivers of long-term resilience and growth.

RT Knits, one of MEXA’s pioneering members, has fully leveraged on this framework to transform its energy model and embed sustainability at the core of its operations. The expanded photovoltaic installation of 7.5MW now supplies the entirety of the company’s electricity requirements.

This milestone goes beyond a single company’s success. More broadly, it validates the effectiveness of MEXA’s sector-wide approach, which is empowering manufacturers with clear direction, enabling investment in renewable infrastructure, and accelerating the transition toward carbon-neutral production systems.

RT Knits’ success stands as a compelling example of what becomes possible when visionary industry leadership is supported by a strong institutional framework.

By enabling forward-looking manufacturers to act decisively, MEXA is positioning Mauritius as a global benchmark for low-impact, and high-performance industrial production.
