As per the Energy Efficiency (Energy Consumer and Energy Audit) Regulations 2017, energy audits will be mandatory for the private sector as from 1st January 2021.
This will mainly include private companies which consume more than 100 toe (tons of oil equivalent), which is also equal to an electricity consumption of 1,160 MWh per annum which is about 100,000 kwh/month.
The energy audits will be carried out as per ISO 50002 (international standard specifying how an energy audit is to be carried out) and by Energy Auditors, who will
- Either be a Certified Energy Auditor registered with the EEMO
- Or from an Audit Firm registered with the EEMO
We have been informed that the estimated cost of an Energy Audit in a private company will be in the range of Rs 400,000 – Rs 600,000, but this cost will be finalized in due course.
At MEXA, we believe that most of our large manufacturing and export companies will be impacted by this mandatory energy audit and will subsequently need to implement an Energy Management Process.
MEXA will be meeting its members shortly to discuss on the way to proceed with the above implementation.
