3 Maersk Vessels have skipped Mauritius consecutively for the past 3 weeks.
In its last communiqué issued yesterday, Maersk has specified that its Safari service will continue to skip Mauritius for the next 4 weeks and they will not take any booking for Export containers to South Africa.
Undeniably, this has caused a huge impact on our imports of raw materials causing huge delays in production, as well as delaying our exports to South Africa onwards.
MEXA has undertaken several representations, namely:
- Press articles to sensitize the policy makers.
- Representations with the authorities.
A high-level meeting at the Ministry of Finance, comprising of different port-related stakeholders, was held today to discuss on the current situation. Proposals were made, which have to be followed up by the authorities.
In the meantime, MEXA is working with MSC to come up with a short-term solution for both our imports and exports.
